Third instalment of “Smart Spend SKN” campaign uses nautical theme to chart smarter spending choices
BASSETERRE, Saint Kitts and Nevis – August 12, 2025 – The National Cost-of-Living Task Force, in partnership with the Consumer Affairs Department, today released its third “Smart Spend SKN” infographic titled “Savings Island” – a visually engaging guide illustrating how everyday brand switches can steer families toward financial flexibility. Featuring barges navigating toward an island of savings, the graphic highlights practical alternatives like choosing Essential Everyday Oats ($13.97) over Quaker Oats ($18.63) to unlock 25% savings, or selecting Ensueno fabric softener ($20.20) instead of Downy ($28.99) to save $8.79 per purchase.
“We’re not captaining anyone’s spending ship,” emphasised Task Force Chair Dr Marcus L Natta. “This infographic simply maps the options. Whether you redirect savings to groceries, vacations, or emergencies, the destination is your choice.” The design avoids prescriptive language, instead using aspirational cues like “Sail toward smarter spending” and “Financial Freedom: Extra groceries or vacation fund” to position savings as empowerment.
Building on this campaign’s momentum, the Task Force will deepen its public engagement with both local businesses and the public. These efforts reflect the Task Force’s collaborative approach to addressing cost-of-living challenges—one that values the insights and priorities of all stakeholders.
