Second Day Care in Constituency #4 to Receive Relief After Years Without Proper Cooling
Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 22nd , 2025— The Old Road Day Care Centre has received a timely upgrade to its learning environment, thanks to a personal donation of brand-new air conditioning units from Hon. Samal Duggins, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources; Sports; Small Business, Entrepreneurship, Cooperatives, and the Creative Economy.
The donation comes just weeks after Minister Duggins personally supplied 10 new air conditioning units to the Challengers Day Care Centre, which had gone more than eight years without functioning units. Now, the Old Road facility joins in this wave of relief, with classrooms finally equipped to provide a safe and comfortable environment for staff and children.

“For too long, our caregivers have had to give their best while working in conditions that were less than ideal. As the new school term begins, I wanted to ensure that the Old Road Day Care Centre could welcome children back in a cool and comfortable environment,” said Minister Duggins. “This is not about recognition, but about responsibility. Our children and caregivers deserve the best.”
Teachers and staff expressed gratitude for the Minister’s gesture, noting that the timing was especially meaningful as preparations for the new school year reach their peak. The new cooling systems will not only bring relief to those who work tirelessly with the children each day but also ensure a healthier and more focused learning space for the students upon their return.
These donations add to Minister Duggins’ consistent track record of delivery demonstrating his commitment to turning words into action and ensuring that communities see real, tangible improvements in their daily lives.
“True leadership is about action where it matters most,” Duggins added. “By investing in comfort and dignity for our children and caregivers, we’re investing in the future of our nation.”
