As part of the government’s continued efforts to enhance national security, the 2026 Budget proposes $84.1 million in recurrent funding for National Security, complemented by an additional $3.2 million allocation for critical infrastructure development. This infrastructure investment will support the refurbishment of police stations, the construction and upgrading of fire service facilities, and the acquisition of essential equipment.

The budget also provides for significant upgrades to the closed-circuit television surveillance and traffic management systems to enhance public safety and improve crime detection, along with targeted investment in the National Security Technology Refresh Programme to modernise the technological infrastructure used by law enforcement agencies. Additionally, provision has been made for the demolition and reconstruction of the Basseterre Fire and Rescue facility, alongside other key projects designed to ensure faster, more efficient emergency response capabilities across the Federation.

The government is also placing a strong emphasis on improving fire services in Nevis. As part of the planned upgrades, a new fire appliance has already been procured for Nevis, and a second fire station will be opened on the island to ensure timely responses to emergencies. Additionally, the government is committed to training local firefighters in Saint Kitts to further enhance the professionalism and readiness of the Nevis fire division.

Prime Minister Dr. Drew underscored that these initiatives are essential to maintaining public safety and national order, ensuring that law enforcement and emergency response teams are equipped with the tools and resources necessary to meet the growing demands of the country.

“The safety and security of our citizens remain a top priority for this government,” said Prime Minister Drew. “Through these strategic investments, we are not only reinforcing our commitment to law and order, but we are also ensuring that the agencies tasked with protecting us, are well-equipped and prepared to address the challenges of today and the future.”

As the nation continues to grow and develop, Prime Minister Drew assures that his government remains dedicated to providing the necessary resources and support to keep communities secure and safeguard the well-being of all citizens.
