Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 11, 2016 (SKNIS): During a special sitting of Parliament for the 25 Most Remarkable Teens, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth, Honourable Shawn Richards, noted the significance of the work of the youth department for not only initiating the awards but all that it does in creating opportunities for young persons.
The minister mentioned the department’s annual summer camp, which has afforded over 250 young persons the opportunity to engage in team building, business design and also community activism in the form of a beach clean-up at the Irish Town Bay Road.
The focus of the department to strengthen family units was highlighted with the Father Child Sand Sculpting Challenge, which created an environment of bonding.
The youth minister said that through the entrepreneurship initiative of the department of youth empowerment, Anastasia Elliott, has become a regional ambassador for the CARICOM sponsored by the Creativity for Employment and Business Opportunity (CEBO) Project.
The minister noted that the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors have also been very active and just recently launched a support group to the programme.
“I therefore take this opportunity, to congratulate the Acting Director of Youth, Mr. Pierre Liburd and his extremely hard working team for creating the opportunity for volunteerism and activism and also for facilitating the growth of excellence in the youth of our federation.”
