COMMISSIONER QUEELEY OPTIMISTIC ON OUTCOME FROM NATIONAL CRIME SYMPOSIUM

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 10, 2017 (RSCNPF): Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley says, he is very optimistic and looks forward to the projected outcome by stakeholder groups from the National Consultation on Crime held on Thursday (February 09) in St. Kitts.

The National Crime Symposium is an initiative brought forward by the Ministry of National Security(GOVSKN) and was co-sponsored by the Coalition of Support for St. Kitts-Nevis Security Initiatives (CSSKNSI), a group of local businesses comprising of Christophe Harbour, Cockleshell Bay Development, Four Seasons Resort Nevis, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, Royal St. Kitts Hotel & Casino (formerly known as Jack Tar), St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino, and Windsor University.

The symposium was facilitated by Dr. Neals Chitan, and was held with the focus of “Uprooting Crime & Violence”. After a keynote presentation setting the foundation by Dr. Chitan who is a noted Crime Reduction Specialist and Social Skills Consultant, stakeholders broke out into working groups to focus on areas relevant to their mission.

Stakeholders represented a wide cross section of the community in St. Kitts and Nevis. Stakeholders represented the Clergy, Education, Social Services, Community and National Groups and Organizations, the Business and Trade Sector, Government, NGO’s and others.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley said, “The National Crime Symposium was timely, and the turnout of stakeholders was very encouraging. We in the Police Service has seen the efforts of Dr. Chitan in the community, and there is a sense that his presentations in the schools about making choices are being embraced the our youth. “Stop N Think” is one step.” Commissioner Queeley added, “we look forward to seeing what the stakeholders can develop in the areas to assist with Prevention, Rehabilitation and Support Systems in terms of reducing crime. They were very engaged today, and we are very optimistic of the outcome.”
