ECTEL MEMBER STATES TO INTRODUCE NEW ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS BILL

Castries, Saint Lucia – 16 February 2017: Managing Director of ECTEL Embert Charles, will be the feature speaker when the Nevis Island Administration’s Information Technology Department holds its Delta Awards Dinner and Ceremony this Saturday, February 18th.

He will speak on the topic: “On telecommunications, a regional perspective-Establishing the
framework for positive Social and Economic Development.” The Department is observing its first Information and Communication Technology (ICT) week, which ends tomorrow with its award ceremony. The theme of the week long observation is :“An Introduction to ICT for positive Social and Economic Development.” Several events geared toward increasing the knowledge and heightening the awareness about the impact of ICT throughout the island of Nevis have been organized.

The goals of ICT Week are to connect ICT solutions providers with solution seekers; to promote the growth and development of the local ICT sector; to raise awareness about critical ICT issues such as cyber-security, cyber-bullying and artificial intelligence and; to generate interest in ICT as
a career for young people.

While in St. Kitts and Nevis, the Managing Director will also hold talks with Minister responsible for Telecommunications Vincent Byron as well as the NTRC on a number of issues and finalise plans for a roadshow on the new EC Bill.
