BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 20th, 2017 (PRESS SEC) — At last Friday’s [February 17th] launch of the Unity Housing Solutions Program, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris referred to “the final element of the housing development strategy.” This final element will involve the installation of infrastructure (electricity, roads and/or water) at 69 already existing housing developments and cost approximately $70 million.
The following are just a few of the housing developments that were rolled out under the previous administration without basic infrastructural amenities and facilities. Source: Lands & Surveys
Roads are yet to be paved in Parry’s Extension [St. Peter’s], Taylor’s East, Cabbage Tree Housing Extension [Cayon], and Crescent Hill [Buckley’s/Olivee’s Estate area], which were started in 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2013, respectively. No roads have also been paved in Park View [Molineux], which was started in 2005 and extended in 2009.
Partial electricity/water has been installed at the Stapleton Gardens site, which was started in 2008. Roads are yet to be paved there.
Farms Housing Development [Sandy Point], which was started in 2000, has partially paved roads and partial electricity/water.
At Boyd’s View [Boyd’s Village], Farms Meadows [Sandy Point], Race Course Extension [Newton Ground], Shadwell South [Shadwell’s Estate] and Wingfield View [Old Road area], which were all started in 2009, roads are yet to be paved and there is partial electricity/water.
At East West Farm, Molphil [an area between Molineux and Phillip’s], and Rawlins Housing Development Extension [St. Paul’s], which were all started in 2010, there is partial electricity/water and there are no paved roads.
Phase Two of Hermitage [Cayon], which was started in 2000, has no roads. Phases Three and Four, which were both started in 2009, do not have any infrastructure.
Middle Island Extension Phase Two, which was started in 2009, is without electricity and roads have not been paved.

In relation to the 69 housing developments without basic infrastructure that the Team Unity Government has identified, the Honourable Prime Minister said last Friday that, “Several persons have housing plans and can’t get started. Several persons can’t even get to the bank for financing because the projects are not ready. We want to unleash that potential for property ownership by ensuring that we then provide the basic infrastructure that will allow the individual to start. So the water, the electricity, etc., we are prepared to put those in…We want the housing program to come alive in St. Kitts and Nevis, and we are prepared to do it.”
