The monitoring of pregnant women and their unborn babies, and the delivery of pregnant women can be described by some as onerous. Others are proud and passionate about their role as specialists and midwives, and being the bearers of good tidings to not only the pregnant women but to their spouses, family and friends.

The staff of the Maternity Unit is made up of a group of proud and passionate midwives who work tirelessly – often for extended hours – in order to ensure the safe and fruitful outcome of pregnancies. They also enjoy caring for well, premature and very ill infants.  They work assiduously to ensure that the infants overcome morbid health conditions – even with poor prognoses – to become well and active boys and girls and eventually healthy and productive men and women.  Some of these children have been called Blessing, Jewel, Precious and Miracle to indicate how priceless these infants are, especially having defied all odds to remain alive.

The JNF Hospital is grateful to have the Staff of the Maternity Unit as part of the team and sincerely appreciates their contributions to patient care and as a result has recommended them for the prestigious “Nurse of the Year Award” presented by the Rotary Club of Liamuiga.  This recommendation is also supported by the St Kitts Nurses Association.
