Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 27, 2017 (SKNIS): Giving back to one’s community is something that is encouraged, says Director of the Department of People’s Empowerment in the Office of the Prime Minister, Duncan Wattley, who handed over today, October 27, 2017, a number of school supplies to the Cayon Primary and High Schools. The gifts were donated by the Brenda Burroughs Foundation and the Green Valley Commercial Development Inc.

The late Brenda Burroughs was a resident of Cayon who attended both the Cayon Primary and High Schools.

“She has gone to the great beyond, but her family members still remember and want to remember her for her contributions. So they have made a kind gesture of the school supplies,” said Mr. Wattley, who also mentioned that “one of the things that we do out of this department is that we facilitate persons living abroad who would want to send stuff home as donations.”

According to the family of Ms. Burroughs, Brenda strongly believed that every child deserves a good education without any obstacles. She was very involved in the Cayon community and with various organizations such as the Green Valley Festival.

The family said that it was her wish that she would be able to provide whatever assistance was needed to schools, as well as to the elderly, to make the community better and continue her legacy of outreach.

The family of the late Brenda Burroughs made a donation of four printers and office supplies to be shared between the Cayon High, where she was a teacher, and the Cayon Primary School where she began her formal education.

The family said that they will continue to support both institutions in order to ensure that the students there not only have a great school year, but a positive learning environment in the years to come.

The Green Valley Commercial Development Inc., which is headed by Lennox Liburd who lives in New York and Royston Isaac who lives in Nevis, has also graciously donated cabinets, books and other supplies to the Cayon Primary School and the Cayon High School.
