The NMRF is a national mechanism or structure to coordinate and prepare reports to and engage with international and regional human rights mechanisms (including treaty bodies, the universal periodic review), and to coordinate and track national follow-up and implementation of the treaty obligations and the recommendations emanating from these mechanisms. As a member of the United Nations, St. Kitts and Nevis is due to present its third Universal Periodic Review in 2020.

The NMRF draws its members from various ministries across the civil service who will be instrumental in providing the relevant information to be included in the National Report for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process. On March 1, 2018, the Ministry was host to another workshop on the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

Influential stakeholders from various sectors of the community convened for consultations in relation to this convention. The facilitator for both workshops was Ms. Michelle Brathwaite, United Nations Human Rights Officer for Barbados, the OECS and Trinidad and Tobago.
