March 21, 2018, Bridgetown, Barbados – The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), through, VYBZING, has launched a contest to encourage young people to creatively explore how climate-smart agriculture can secure a sustainable future for Grenada.
VYBZING is an outreach programme through which CDB engages directly with youth on regional development issues. The Programme, part of the agenda for the Annual Meeting of the Bank’s Board of Governors, aims to inspire participants to take action to build a better Caribbean.
Legal residents of Grenada between the ages of 16 and 29 are eligible to enter the 2018 VYBZING Music Video Challenge, for which the theme is Climate Action Today = Food for Tomorrow. Through a three-minute video, youth will spotlight their ideas for making agriculture more resilient to the impacts of climate change, and for improving food security across communities in Grenada. Participants in the contest have the opportunity to win prizes ranging from USD1,250 to USD2,000, and a People’s Choice Award of USD250.
CDB’s Vice-President (Corporate Services) and Bank Secretary, Yvette Lemonias Seale, commented: “CDB is pleased to launch VYBZING in Grenada, and to engage with the youth on the topic of climate-smart agriculture.  I challenge them to “think outside the box” and come up with innovative solutions for a climate-smart agriculture sector. I also look forward to seeing the creative ways in which they will use technology to showcase these novel ideas for increasing productivity and production in the agriculture sector; boosting economic growth and reducing rural poverty in Grenada.”
The Challenge will be open until May 11, 2018, and is being run in partnership with the Ministries of Education, and Youth and Sports. Participants are invited to submit entries through the VYBZING Facebook page, www.facebook.com/CDBVYBZING. Contest rules and regulations are also available on the page.
The Music Video Challenge is one of two activities, which will be held under the VYBZING Youth Outreach Programme in Grenada this year. The other, a Workshop, will take place from May 22 to 25, 2018.
