Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 13, 2018 (SKNIS)—Professor Thelma Alafia Samuels, MBBS, MPH, PhD, and Mrs. Latoya Matthew Duncan, Nutrition Surveillance Coordinator in the Ministry of Health, are the special guests on the weekly radio and television programme “Working for You” on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
The duo will engaged the audience in a discussion on NCDs (Non-Communicable Diseases) that is rampant in the Caribbean region and what can be done to reduce the impact of NCDs on Caribbean populations and health systems.
Professor Samuels is the Director of the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre, Deputy Dean for Research and Graduate Programmes, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill campus, Barbados, and co-Principal Investigator o9f the IDRC (International Development Research Centre, Canada) funded evaluation of the CARICOM Heads of Government 2007 NCD Summit Declaration.
Professor Samuels is a medical doctor, trained at UWI Mona. She holds a MPH (Masters in Public Health) and a PhD in Chronic Disease Epidemiology, both degrees awarded with honours from Johns Hopkins University. She has several publications.
Professor Samuels in in St. Kitts to make her contribution at the the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) 63rd Research Conference from June 14 – 16 at the St. Kitts Marriot under the theme “Sustainable Health Systems for Economic Growth, Development and Wealth.”
