Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 21, 2019 (SKNIS): The formal meeting of the Cabinet took place on Monday, February 18, 2019. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris. - For the fourth time, the Federal Cabinet met in Nevis. The Cabinet received the members of the National Marijuana Commission—the chairperson accompanied by six members—who explained in detail the recommendations of the Commission. The chairperson also gave an overview of the work of the Commission leading up to the recommendations and the extensive public consultations which have been held. The chair also gave the statistics from various surveys and explained how they arrived at the unanimous recommendations. The Cabinet was advised of the existence of the International Narcotics Control Board, the regulations emanating therefrom, and of the WHO (World Health Organization) scheduling for cannabis and cannabis derivatives. The Cabinet was then informed of legal implications regarding the transport and use of cannabis. The Commission has been asked to assist with the educational process as Cabinet seeks to implement the recommendations made by the Commission.
- Cabinet also discussed the CBI (Citizenship by Investment) programme and agreed that assurances must be given to our economic citizens that their status is secure.
