He addressed how important the event is, calling it a “historic event” as this was the first time a President of The Republic of China (Taiwan) has ever visited the island of Nevis. He also went on to address the importance of the event not only for the purpose of visiting but for the purpose of building a park.

“Today is a historic day not only because you’ve come, but also because on this site, where we are, we hope to construct a park, a park that is not like any other park, but a park we feel is going to be the demonstrative relationship that we’ve enjoyed over the past 35 years,” said Honourable Brantley.

He then showed his gratitude towards the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), saying that, “Taiwan has facilitated and assisted our people in innumerable ways, in healthcare, in ICT’s, in infrastructure and … in building our human capacity.”

Honourable Brantley also took the time to recognize those in the audience who have studied in the Republic of China Taiwan to show Taiwan’s assistance in building the Federation’s human capacity. He said, “I believe in the audience today. We have many students who have studied there [and] have now come back here to make their contributions.”
