Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 24, 2019 (SKNIS): As part of its recent improvements and to ensure its critical infrastructure is protected, The Cable has implemented a number of mitigation measures for potential natural disasters.

That’s according to The Cable’s Chief Executive Officer, Patricia Walters and Systems Administrator, Mark Etienne who were guests on the weekly radio and television programme, “Working for You” on July 24, 2019.

Mr. Etienne said, “We’re bringing Ultra TV and that of course comes through satellite…so what we’ve done is to put dishes in place that can withstand up to 150 miles per hour winds, so if anything, greater than that [comes] we have a team to come take those down and protect them.”

He went on to say that hurricanes and other natural disasters are taken into consideration when plans are being made by the company, as St. Kitts and Nevis is situated in a natural disaster zone.

CEO Walters added that, “We have a fair amount of our network, the outside planned network underground, so even if a hurricane comes, that network might be impacted by some water but it would be easy to restore.”

She said what they will be doing in the near future is to roll out more protective measures for very vulnerable areas across the country.
