PRIME MINISTER HARRIS DISCUSSES INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN ST. KITTS-NEVIS WITH PRIVATE SECTOR IN MOROCCO

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 29, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris led a St. Kitts and Nevis delegation in important dialogue with representatives of the private sector in the city of Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco on Friday, July 26, 2019.

The private sector officials who were present at the meeting are members of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM).

A 70-year old organization, the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, is the first representative body of the Moroccan private sector and the leading association of Moroccan businessmen with 90,000 members and affiliates, employing 2.9 million people and contributing up to 55 percent of Morocco’s GDP through its 33 sectoral federations covering all economic branches. CGEM is also the official partner of government in all areas regarding economic policy, regulations and all that are related to the private sector.

Prime Minister Harris was met by former Foreign Affairs Minister and current chair of CGEM, Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar.

The meeting between the St. Kitts and Nevis delegation and the Moroccan businessmen focused on investment opportunities in the Federation, primarily in the areas of public infrastructure, renewable energy and attracting Moroccan business through the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme.

Dr. Harris extended an invitation for a team from CGEM to visit the twin island Federation in the near future.

The prime minister’s delegation included Minister of Public Infrastructure et al., the Honourable Ian Patches Liburd; Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Andrew Skerritt; Ambassador His Excellency Sydney Osborne, and His Excellency Ambassador Michael Powell, Special Envoy in the Office of the Prime Minister. Also present at the meeting was St. Kitts and Nevis Honorary Consul in Morocco, Mr. Mohamed Benchekroun.
