Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 21, 2022 (SKNIS): The Team Unity Cabinet of Ministers met on Friday, January 7 and Monday, January 10, 2022, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris. During their meeting, Cabinet deliberated on matters which could impact the Federation.

  • On January 7, Cabinet deliberated extensively on matters to do with the cruise industry especially in relation to the Omicron COVID-19 variant and determined the level of risk that the country is willing to absorb. Most of the discussions were centered around mitigation measures to deal with the rapid spread of the Omicron variant. The Medical Professionals along with the Director of the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) gave the Cabinet scientific-based information to assist in arriving at decisions. Officers from the Ministry of Tourism and the St. Kitts Tourism Authority were also present and shared information from the cruise lines in an effort to arrive at a workable solution in minimizing risks while protecting livelihoods.
  • On January 10, the Medical Professionals presented to the Cabinet recommendations that were related to the meeting of 7th January and proposed a way forward for the cruise industry.
  • The Cabinet approved several submissions which would aid in the development of the Federation and lay the foundation for the growth that is anticipated for this year.
