Nearly 2500 frontline Workers Benefitted from the Honorarium

Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, October 19, 2022: Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew during his press conference held on Monday 17th October 2022 confirmed that the frontline workers will receive an honorarium for the sacrifices made during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Frontline Workers are essential workers who have been working throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and who have been called to meet the basic needs of the people of the Federation and all inbound and outbound travelers to and from the Federation along the corridor of containment.

Nearly 2500 employees received the payment of an honorarium of $2,000.00 for their sacrifices made during the COVID-19 pandemic. These frontline workers risked their lives to provide essential services to their fellow citizens and residents.

Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew stated that “while no amount of money can compensate for such a sacrifice, I felt compelled to offer some form of appreciate to honour these workers who made the brave and selfless decision to serve their people during such an uncertain time.”

Over 2,292 frontline workers received their honorarium on Friday 21st October 24, 2022, along with their regular monthly salary and an additional 205 qualifying essential workers are expected to receive their payments by end October 2022.

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis will spend approximately $4,994,000 in payment of honorarium to the qualifying frontline workers.

The qualifying institutions include:

  1. Customs and Excise Department (Customs officers based at the R.L.B. International Airport and all seaports in the Federation and those who worked as part of the Fusion Center)
  2. Ministry of National Security: St. Kitts and Nevis Immigration Department, Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force, St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services, St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard, Team of Compliance Officers, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Members of staff of Ministry of National Security and His Majesty’s Prison
  3. SCASPA
  4. Ministry of Tourism and St. Kitts Tourism Authority
  5. SKNIS and ZBC Staff
  6. Ministry of Health: Health and Emergency Operating Committee, Health IT Technicians, Port health Surveillance Officers, Environmental Health Department Team, All Community Based nurses, doctors, and all allied staff, All Institutional (Hospital) Based nurses, doctors, and allied staff
