BASSETERRE, St Kitts, 21stAugust 2023 – Communications Officers in the Ministry of Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment received brand new communications equipment from the OECS Commission on 15th August, 2023 at the Solid Waste Management Corporation.
The brief handing-over ceremony came at the close of a two-day regional communication training workshop facilitated through the Biodiversity Support for Africa, Caribbean and Pacific States Coastal Environments (BioSPACE) and the Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) projects that are European Union-funded through the OECS Commission.
Equipment included digital cameras with accessories and field gear with the intention to improve the communications output while at the same time, enhancing skills in writing press releases, using social and digital media, photography and videography. The overall objective is to educate and make the public aware of what is happening within projects that may seem overly technical to the average citizen.
BioSPACE projects are designed to support and improve the management and sustainable use of coastal and marine resources, while the ILM projects are geared toward improving land for agriculture, food security, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the preservation of ecosystems.
Implementation partners include St. Kitts The Department of Environment; the Nevis Department of Physical Planning and Environment and the St. Kitts and Nevis Department of Marine Resources. Nevis Television also took part in the training.
Other participating Member States included Montserrat, Antigua and Anguilla.
