Minister Douglas Meets with India’s Minister of Health and Family Welfare to Discuss Enhanced South-South Cooperation

New Delhi, India (8th August, 2024)- On the 6th of August, In continued efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, today, Foreign Minister Douglas met with the Honourable Minister of Health and Family Welfare of India. The meeting underscored the vital importance of South-South cooperation, with both Ministers highlighting its potential to address common health challenges and leverage shared opportunities.

The discussions between Minister Douglas and Minister Jagat centered on key areas of mutual interest, including health education, medical tourism, pharmaceuticals, and the treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and cancer. Both leaders expressed a strong commitment to advancing collaborative efforts in these fields to improve health outcomes for their respective populations.

To formalise and facilitate these collaborative efforts, both Ministers emphasised the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU will serve as a framework for closer cooperation, providing a structured approach to implementing the discussed initiatives and ensuring sustained engagement between the two countries.

Minister Douglas expressed his optimism about the future of bilateral relations with India, stating, “this meeting marks a significant milestone in our journey towards stronger South-South cooperation. By working together, we can harness our collective strengths and achieve better health outcomes for our people.”
