Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 27, 2017 (SKNIS): Creative artists in St. Kitts and Nevis are encouraged to band together to form an association so that they can access the services of the local Coalition of Service Industries. This includes an upcoming 12-week programme that will explore the business of music.

Telly Onu, a consultant with the St. Kitts and Nevis Coalition of Service Industries (SKNCSI), said the sessions will review the concept of the business model; how to organize and build a team; intellectual property rights; technology; e-commerce and more, all specifically designed for the music industry. Artists will also learn how to access music streaming platforms such as Tidal, and how to compare their services in order to choose the best one.

“Sometimes individual artists don’t fully understand the business of music and how the industry works,” she stated, on this week’s edition of the government television and radio programme “Working for You” on July 26. She added that the upcoming programme will help in these areas.

One of the modules will cover marketing and promotion, which is of great value for any artists. Another will include networking, collaborations and partnerships.

“No longer are you just that singer; no longer do you just have your band, but you now have a framework within which you can further develop your business and also be competitive internationally,” Onu stated.

Further information about the programme will be shared at a later date.

The SKNCSI aims to enhance the competitiveness of the non-tourism professional services sector by strengthening local regulations and developing export capabilities and collaboration within multiple sectors. It also partners with the Department of Culture, which hosts a registry of persons in the creative sector and provides web space to allow the artists to have an online presence.
