Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris updated the general public on the state visit via his monthly press conference on Tuesday, July 02.

“The visiting Presidential Party of over 100 plus persons will spend about four days and three nights in St. Kitts and Nevis (July 13-16). I gather that we are the first destination on her Caribbean Trip and that she will spend more time in our beautiful twin-island paradise than in any other ally state,” said Prime Minister Harris. “So we welcome them and that large delegation. If they are persuaded, they can even double up the numbers because we have the room.”

Dr. Harris said that President Tsai’s visit demonstrates 35 years of mutual respect and diplomacy.

“This too, is a sure sign of the importance which the Republic of China (Taiwan) attaches to the diplomatic relations with St. Kitts and Nevis, established way back then in 1983 and before that in 1981 with the agricultural mission. So we have a long history,” said the prime minister.

An official press release from the Office of the President Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that “Vice Minister Tsao emphasized that pursuing summit diplomacy and building personal friendships with top leaders of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies is a key focal point of the government’s diplomatic work, and is the most important task for Taiwan as it seeks to promote ‘steadfast diplomacy’ and solidify alliances.”

President Tsai Ing-wen will visit St. Kitts and Nevis from July 13 -16. President Tsai will be the third President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to visit St. Kitts and Nevis, after President Chen Shui-bian and President Ma Ying-jeou.  She will be the first President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to visit Nevis.
