BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, February 24, 2023 (SKNIS) – Mr. James Sutton, with over thirty (30) years of dedicated service in law enforcement, has been installed as the new Commissioner of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF).

Mr. Sutton’s installation as Commissioner of Police took place on Thursday, February 23, 2023, during a ceremony held at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium. It featured a Guard of Honour, which was inspected by the Governor-General, Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd GCMG, JP.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were Cabinet Ministers, led by Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew; Speaker of the National Assembly, the Honourable Lanein Blanchette; the High Command of the RSCNPF; Commander of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force, Lieutenant Colonel J. Anthony Comrie; representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps; senior government officials, as well as family members and well-wishers.

Prime Minister Dr. Drew, in his remarks, saluted Commissioner James for a stellar career in law enforcement and for his dedication to the peace and security of the citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Today marks a significant occasion for the principal law enforcement body in the Federation–the installation ceremony for the Commissioner of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police. Mr. James Sutton has dedicated his life to the service of his country and his people. As a police officer, he remains loyal to his duty to serve and to protect the public, and he continues to do so with dignity and integrity throughout his career. And so today, on behalf of the entire Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, it is our turn to express our appreciation to you Commissioner Sutton, and to congratulate you on your elevation to the leadership position of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force,” said Prime Minister Dr. Drew.

The National Security Minister further remarked that Mr. Sutton has proven uncompromisable in the fight against crime “and this is why you have remained successful throughout your career.”

In his remarks as Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sutton pledged to do all that is necessary to elevate the standard of service from officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

He said, “The Police Force will continue to implement strategies to ensure that our communities continue to be safe places to live, work, do business and visit. Together we can effect positive change and outcomes. The most fundamental obligation to the citizens is to create and maintain public safety in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.”

Prior to his ascension to the office of Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sutton served as Divisional Commander of Division ‘C’ (Nevis). Over his years of service to the Force, Commissioner Sutton held various posts and worked in a number of departments including the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the White-Collar Crime Unit and the Professional Standards Department.

Mr. Sutton is the successor of Mr. Hilroy Brandy, who served as Commissioner of Police from 2017 to 2023.
