Cruise Sector Jamming for Last Lap

Port Zante bustled with activity today as cruise ship passengers explored the various retail offerings.

BASSETERRE (4th January, 2017): As revelers took to the streets for the last lap carnival celebrations, the cruise sector of St. Kitts was also jamming with activity on Tuesday with the arrival of the Jewel Of The Seas, Oasis Of The Seas and the Royal Clipper, with a combined maximum capacity of more than 9,000 passengers.

Tour operators were busy today, with visitors seeking to explore the island, visit the beaches or go on an adventurous activity such as hiking in the rain forest, swimming with the dolphins or zip lining, Also, hundreds of visitors could be seen on Port Zante visiting retail outlets and vendors for jewelry, clothing, art and craft.unnamed-1

“It was indeed exciting to see that on the third day of the year, cruise tourism demonstrating its benefits and continued importance to the Federation,” Minister of Tourism, The Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant said. “This will certainly continue as we work together in partnership with all stakeholders to develop a sustainable and even more prosperous tourism cruise sector.”

Cruise ship passengers could be seen enjoying the Last Lap parade, some even participating in the folklore dances and singing.

Cruise ships will make a total of 391 calls to St. Kitts in this cruise season, with 16 new ships arriving here for the very first time.

In the last cruise season (2015-’16) cruise ships made 373 calls to St. Kitts, bringing 913,716 passengers, which was the most ever in a cruise season. This cruise season (2016-’17) is expected to be another record breaking season with a projected arrival of 1,125,927 passengers.
