During a prize giving ceremony held on Wednesday at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex in Molineux for the winners of the 2016 competition, Prime Minister Harris, the Parliamentary representative for Belle Vue to Ottley’s, commended his constituents for helping to keep the league afloat.

“It has been 21 years and we have never looked back and we have never stopped and today we are the longest functioning domino league in St. Kitts and Nevis and maybe even the entire Caribbean, so the constituency is doing a good job. Indeed, many things start and stop. We are not one of those things. We keep going year after year. Despite the rough and tumble of the competition, you have stood your ground and this is critically important,” Dr. Harris added.

The honourable prime minister said over the 21 years, the league has accomplished its goal of uniting the people of constituency seven through the playing of domino.

He continued, “When we started 21 years aback, we thought at that time that something had to be done to bring the constituency together and more importantly send home a message to the young people that friendships can be built, that people can engage in sports at the keenest and highest level of competition and still at the end of it be friends. That we have to be able to move in our small country, from village to village, and city to village without fear and hindrance and when you look at the wide length and breath of the country from which all of us have come to be part and partners in the constituency domino league, we can say that the last 21 years have been worth it and we have proved our ourselves a model not only in terms of organization at the constituency level but most importantly at the people to people level.”

Captain of the winning team, Desmond Rawlins, thanked the Prime Minister for the investment he continues to make in the people of his constituency, adding, “It’s 21 years now and you know we love domino and without him this still wouldn’t be going on so I have to thank him for this. This is my sport and domino is something that keeps this constituency together.”

As a show of appreciation, the organizers presented the honourable prime minister with a plaque, honouring his commitment to the domino league.

After three rounds of competition, running from August to December 2016, Unity defeated Lodge to claim the title as the top domino team in Constituency Seven.

The other teams that competed in last year’s competition were Guinness, Beer, Christ Church, Tabernacle, Molineux, Upsetters, Saddlers, Unstoppable, Small Corner, Inner-city Youths, Silvers and Parsons.
