In opening remarks by Commissioner Mr. Ian M. Queeley, he said, “2017 will see the continued embrace of New Technology, the roll out of the enhanced CCTV system providing for more coverage of our communities.” and added that “Officers are currently in the Republic of China Taiwan, being trained in a “Real World” dynamic environment on the use of this system.”

The Commissioner further stated, “the use of Unmanned Air Assets (Drones) will be rolled out later this year.” and “to address security, with regards to our porous borders, we have engaged our partners in efforts to find and embrace best systems to enhance security in that regards.”

Commissioner Queeley also highlighted, the roll out a Crime Reporting app was launched recently for use by Smartphone users. He said, ” the app, “SKN Crime Reporter” allows interaction between citizens and the Police for the reporting of crimes, be it active, past, or future.” He shared that the app can be downloaded from the store (Google play or the Apple Store) that supports your smart phone.” And reminded the public, “this app does not replace Crime Stoppers; it provides an additional medium to report crime.”

Trumpeting the thrust for greater Community Engagement by our Officers, Commissioner Queeley said, “this has been identified as a critical element of new focus, and as such our officers have stepped up their interactions within the communities they serve. Community patrols, visits to neighbourhoods, Village Shops, Schools, Ball-fields and Playing Courts will again be common sites in our communities.”

Commissioner Queeley highlighted, “this engagement of Police and Community will only serve to strengthen the relationship and through trust and mutual respect we will all work together in partnership to prevent, reduce, detect crimes and prosecute criminals. And, in the long run, reduce the Fear of Crime in our communities and keep St. Kitts and Nevis a safe place to live, work, attend school, visit and do business.”
