| Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Mrs Carleen Henry-Morton and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, led a delegation of stakeholders on board the ship to officially welcome the captain, crew and passengers to St. Kitts.
Mrs Morton pointed out that this was second consecutive year that a Viking ship was making an inaugural call to St. Kitts. In the last cruise season, the Viking Star visited the island for the very first time, and made a total of 14 calls to St. Kitts. For this cruise season the Viking Sky will also make an inaugural call to St. Kitts on 3rd November, 2017.
“Clearly the decision makers at Viking Ocean Cruises are extremely confident that St. Kitts can deliver a world-class experience for their passengers,” Mrs Morton said. “We are indeed delighted to welcome the Viking Sea, and truly look forward to many more Viking visits to our lovely island.”
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Mr Nick Menon, was also present to witness the exchange of plaques to commemorate the inaugural visit.
“St. Kitts is truly blessed as a cruise destination,” Mr Menon said. “However, in order to maximise returns from the cruise industry, we must always strive to give our very best and provide a quality on-island experience.”
The Viking ships are medium size with a five-star design. The ships have a reputation for luxurious comfort, and the ships are normally have less than a thousand passengers.
The 2017-’18 cruise season started in October, and already three ships have made inaugural calls to the island; the Monarch on 3rd October, the Sirena on 11th October and today the Viking Sea. A total of 12 ships will arrive for the first time in this cruise season. |
