The week long activity will include Meetings of the CXC Council; School Principals and Education Officials; the Examinations Committee; CXC Registrars as well as Senior Managers.

The highlight of the week will be the Opening of Council and Presentation of the Regional Top Awards on Thursday December 14th at 7pm at the St Kitts Marriott Resort.

Core to CXC’s role as the regional examination body is the need to showcase and reward excellent performance in its examinations. As such, CXC introduced Regional Awards for outstanding performances at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) level in 1988.

Throughout the years, CXC expanded this recognition to include partnership with the University of the West Indies to offer scholarships to the Regional Top Awardees at CSEC; Awards for outstanding performances at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) level; as well as Awards for outstanding performances at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) level.

In 2016, CXC introduced Regional Awards for the most outstanding male and female candidate at the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC) level.

Awards are presented to candidates for outstanding achievement in a number of categories for each of the levels including CAPE; CSEC and CCSLC.

Awardees receive a monetary prize, a plaque, books and a trip to the country in which the presentation ceremony is being hosted such as is the case for this trip to St. Kitts.

The 49th annual Council meeting will be held on Thursday December 14. Also on that date is the
the School Examinations Committee (SEC) which comprises Chief Education Officers as well as CXC Local Registrars, and Principals.

On Wednesday December 13, CXC will meet with local education personnel and principals of schools.

Among delegates for this year’s round of meetings will be Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, CXC Chairman; Mr Glenroy Cumberbatch CXC Registrar; Deputy Chair – Dr. Marcia Potter; Pro-Registrar, Dr. Carol Granston and Former Chair – Professor E Nigel Harris. A number of other CXC officials will be in attendance.

CXC Policy is determined by the Council which is conducted through the Administrative and Finance Committee (AFC), the School Examinations Committee (SEC) and its Sub-Committee (SUBSEC). Each Participating Government is required to establish a National Committee to advise the Council on matters connected with examinations conducted by the Council.

A Final Awards Committee (FAC) is appointed by the Council for the purpose of determining the award of grades and, approving the issue of certificates, diplomas and associate degrees in accordance with the criteria established.

The award for Top performer overall and Most Outstanding Candidate will be presented to Michael Bhopaul, Queen’s College, Guyana. Ms. Kadeema Blanchette the Federation’s top performer will participate in the activities during the week.

A delegation of CXC officials will make courtesy calls on Government officials including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Hon Shawn Richards and Premier of Nevis Hon Vance Amory.
