The Primary Schools Championships & CARIFTA Trials will be staged from the Saturday, 17th – Sunday, 18th March with the Interschool Championships taking place one week later from the Friday, 23rd – Sunday, 25th March. Both events will be held at the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium at Bird Rock.

With almost all primary and secondary sports day events now in the books, schools are now gearing up their respective athletes for a showdown on the national stage with both meets shaping up to be highly competitive.

In the primary school arena, defending champions, Dr. William Connor Primary School, will be looking to etch its name in the record books by securing a three peat. The school secured its second consecutive championship title in 2017 after amassing an impressive 17 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Public Relations Officer of the SKNAAA, Mr. Kilony Johnson noted, “Although they are the defending champions, Dr. William Connor Primary will have its work cut out if it wishes to take home another championship title this year, as other schools such as former champions Sandy Point Primary, Cayon Primary and St. Paul’s Primary School all look poised to make a serious run at this year’s title.”

At the high school level, the Interschool Championships are already gearing up to be three days of keenly contested track and field events.

Athletes from more than 10 secondary schools and colleges on both St. Kitts and Nevis will be competing in over 200 scheduled events as they vie for track and field supremacy in the Federation.

The eagles of Charles E. Mills Secondary School are confident of claiming their fifth consecutive Interschool championship title this year, after comfortably winning last year’s competition.

“Charles E. Mills Secondary, formerly the Sandy Point High School, of course has traditionally been a dominating force in high school track and field but one cannot count out the other schools. When one look at schools such as Washington Archibald High and Basseterre High School, both of whom boast proud records in track and field, and not to mention Charlestown Secondary which has consistently shown improvements in recent years, it’s clear that this year’s competition will be of a high standard,” Mr. Johnson said.

He added, “Judging by what we have seen from the various developments meets held so far and the performances put on at the different sports day events, I strongly believe that we will see several records fall at both the primary school championships and the interschool championships, and so I strongly urge everyone – parents, teachers, track and field enthusiasts and members of the communities where these schools are located – to come out and give the student-athletes your fullest support.”

Tickets for the RAMS sponsored Primary Schools Championships & CARIFTA Trials can be bought at RAMS Supermarket outlets and Harper’s. Tickets for the TDC sponsored Interschool Championships can be purchased at City Drug Store in Charlestown, Nevis and at the TDC Business Centre at Central Street, Basseterre.
