BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 27, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – At Tuesday night’s (March 26) massive Community Consultation town hall meeting held in the Sandy Point community, the Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris-led Team Unity administration was hailed for its many programmes and people-oriented initiatives that have improved the standards of living of thousands of citizens and residents.

Following the well-received speeches by Deputy Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Five, the Honourable Shawn Richards and Prime Minister Harris, a host of persons in attendance, mostly residents of Sandy Point, took to the microphone to testify about the positive impact of the policies of the Team Unity Government.

Sandy Point resident Dwight Burke urged his fellow citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis to be appreciative of what the Government has been doing in its first term in office.

Speaking specifically of the $500 monthly disbursement to households earning less than $3,000 per month, Mr. Burke said that initiative, known as the Poverty Alleviation Programme, exceeds the monetary value of that of the United States’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly the Food Stamp Program), “and that is something great this is going on in this country that people need to understand.”

Mr. Glenville Mills said Kittitians and Nevisians should always stand and speak positively when good things are happening in the country. He singled out the performance of Deputy Prime Minister Richards in empowering the people of Sandy Point through homeownership, upgraded sporting facilities and newly paved roads.

Similar views were echoed by Mr. Claudius Gumbs, who said, “We know that there are so much good things happening but still we have to preach and send the message out there so people can understand and know what is happening.”

He continued, “We have a good government, a strong government, a people’s government looking after the poor people of this country. Every day when you go to the supermarkets and buy your groceries and you don’t pay a 17% tax you have to say thank you to Team Unity. When your relatives die and you don’t have to pay this big money for funeral expenses, say thank you to Team Unity. And so the government has been doing plenty to help the poor people of this country.”
