Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 20, 2023 (SKNIS): Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew reaffirmed his commitment to the citizens and residents of the Federation that his government is working assiduously to transform the nation into a sustainable island state.

He mentioned this during his Independence Day address on September 19, 2023, under the theme ‘Growing Sustainably, Developing Maturely, Building Resiliency: Independence 40’.

Prime Minister Dr. Drew explained that the theme embodies the nation’s vision for the future that is forward-looking, hope-filled and achievable.

“It is a vision that encompasses every citizen, from the young to the senior as we paint a picture of what our country will look like for the next 40 years,” he said.

He expressed that when his government assumed office a year ago, it shared a vision to transform the twin-island Federation into a sustainable island state.

“This vision isn’t just a government initiative but a shared dream of every resident and citizen both here and in the diaspora,” said Prime Minister Dr. Drew. “Our collective aspirations for life on these two islands today and in the future shape the essence of this vision of sustainability,” he said.

He added, “While the government under my leadership has expressed a deep desire for transformation, we welcome your vision, your desires and your understanding of what true sustainability means for our beloved St. Kitts and Nevis.”

He said that at its core, sustainability is synonymous with enjoying the highest quality of life now and ensuring this standard endures for future Kittitians and Nevisians.

The honourable prime minister underscored that sustainability will be achieved by being equipped with the skills, tools and assets needed to adapt to a changing climate, harnessing cutting-edge digital technology, and safeguarding our environment and precious biodiversity.
