The Ministry of Foreign Aairs of Chile, the Ministry General Secretariat of Government and UNESCO have the honor to invite you to participate in the thirty-first World Press Freedom Day Conference, to be held in Santiago, Chile from May 2nd to May 4th.
This year, the Conference will have as its central theme “Press for the planet: Journalism in the face of the environmental crisis”, and will be a significant opportunity for the international community to collectively reflect on these multidimensional challenges, the fundamental role of journalism and the transformative power that reliable information holds in protect our planet, achieve sustainable development and consolidate our democracies.
During the Conference, we aim to address some key issues such as the importance of reliable and truthful information; the violence faced by journalists and media workers; support to the media to strengthen their institutional capacities; misinformation and disinformation on environmental issues, among other relevant topics. To this end, we expect the attendance of journalists, academics, advocates for press and expression freedoms, and government representatives from around the world.
