Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 30, 2024 (SKNIS): The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has taken further steps towards embracing digital technology with the launch of the Digital Transformation Project, spearheaded by Nigel Carty, Chief Digital Transformation Officer. The initiative aims to accelerate the introduction of digital systems across government departments, enhancing efficiency and sustainability.
In a statement on September 30, Mr. Carty highlighted the importance of this shift for the nation and said, “We recognise that as part of making St. Kitts and Nevis more sustainable, we have to come up with ways and means to not only reduce costs but enable our population to get a foothold in the digital sector.”
The Digital Transformation Management Unit, under Mr. Carty’s leadership, has already begun meeting with various government agencies to bring them up to speed on the project and to identify areas where digital solutions can improve operations.
The Unit is also in the process of forming committees that will provide oversight and ensure a smooth transition to digital systems. These committees include:
- IT Leadership and Projects Steering Committee
- Data Design and Architecture Review Committee
- Project Status Review Committee
- Citizens Co-Creation Forum
A meeting held on September 11th introduced these committees to the public, outlining their roles in overseeing operations and governance throughout the transformation process.
Moving forward, the Digital Transformation Unit plans to interface with government departments to better understand their unique challenges. The goal is to implement digital projects that not only solve these challenges but also enhance operational efficiency.
“We will look from a broad perspective to see how we can analyse and come up with a programme of action that is going to help us to achieve the goals and objectives of implementing those systems in a cost and time efficient manner,” Mr. Carty added.
The Digital Transformation Project is committed to ensuring representation from all government departments and engaging with the wider society, ensuring that all voices are heard as the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis moves towards a more digitally inclusive future.
