Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco (16th April 2024) – The Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Economic Development and Investment of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, arrived on 16th April into the Kingdom of Morocco to commence a four-day inaugural visit. The purpose of his visit was to promote investment opportunities in the Federation, and to create mutually beneficial relations.

The Minister was warmly welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco. During the first day of his visit, Minister Douglas made a call to the Embassies of Eastern Caribbean States to the Kingdom of Morocco where he met with the Mission’s staff, followed by a meeting with the ten (10) students from the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis studying in the Kingdom of Morocco.

During the meeting with the students, the Minister commented on the importance of education and encouraged the students to work hard in their respective areas of study. He remarked that “the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis is pleased to note an increase in the number of students pursuing studies in the Kingdom of Morocco and extend its full support.”

The Minister also met with potential Moroccan investors in the area of Health and received positive reviews from those present. The Minister informed the meeting that “as Minister of Economic Development, it is my vision to see the Federation of Saint and Kitts as a leader in medical tourism in the Eastern Caribbean, and I am confident that this will occur.”

While in the Kingdom of Morocco, the Honourable Minister will transmit the new vision of the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis – a vision which is constructed on core values such as: sustainable development; sustained economic growth and the forging of strategic partnerships to fuel the continued transition of the Federation. The Minister’s agenda in the Kingdom of Morocco is extensive and includes meetings with members from the Government and private sectors in the country.

During his visit, the Honourable Minister will be accompanied by His Excellency CoP (Ret’d) Ian M. Queeley, CSM, Ambassador and Head of Mission of the Eastern Caribbean States to the Kingdom of Morocco and Mr. Mohammed Benchekron, Honorary Consul of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Morocco.

The Honourable Minister is extremely optimistic about exploring investment and partnership opportunities in Morocco and lauds the economic and social policies of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which have transformed Morocco into a modern, progressive North African country.
