Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 22, 2019 (SKNIS): The formal meetings of the Cabinet took place on Monday, January 14, and Friday, January 18, 2019. The meetings were chaired by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris. Here are the salient matters that were discussed, and the decisions taken that are designed to advance the growth and development of the country:
- The Cabinet was updated on national security matters, ongoing court matters, the report of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Commission on Marijuana, human resource issues, matters relating to the presence of the Regional Security System (RSS), the 30th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which takes places in St. Kitts from the 26th to 27thof February, 2019; the evolving Citizenship by Investment (CBI) issues and the Poverty Alleviation Programme, which had its first pay out on December 24, 2018 in Independence Square, Basseterre.
- The discussion of issues from the Cabinet’s agenda of January 14 continued January 19 with ministry by ministry reports of each minister stating the past achievements of their respective ministries and the proposals and plans for the year 2019.
- The chair also updated the Cabinet on the continued build out of the Poverty Alleviation Programme with information from the Ministry of Sustainable Development and suggestions for a more structured pay out to eligible recipients.
