The Dean of Technical Education and Management Studies (TVEMS) reports to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. He/she is responsible for providing administrative and professional leadership of the Division in adherence with the CFBC policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the college’s technical education programs, including curriculum development, instruction, assessment, and student support services.
  • Supervise all faculty and non-academic staff in the Division.
  • Ensure that effective teaching and evaluation methods are practiced within the Division.
  • Ensure that CFBC policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to by the Division.
  • Perform annual evaluations for all staff in the Division.
  • Timetable faculty in consultation with the Vice President of Academic and Student    Affairs.
  • Collaborate with other Deans for effective, efficient and economical use of faculty.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of faculty, staff and students.
  • Prepare an annual budget for the Division.
  • Ensure relevance and currency and the continuous improvement of the academic programs of the Division.
  • Work in consultation and collaboration with the senior administration management team to ensure a college-wide perspective on broad institutional matters.
  • Represent the college at community events and to state and federal agencies.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a technical field required, Ph.D. or equivalent in a Technical Vocational field.
  • Five years or more of administrative/leadership experience in Technical Vocational Education, Community College, or higher education
  • 10 years of industry experience in a technical field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Experience with curriculum development, instruction, and assessment
  • Evidence of desire and ability to forge partnerships, collaboration and networking internally and externally.
  • Experience with budget management 
  • Expertise in a technical field would be considered an asset.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in a technical community college 
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising 
  • Experience with accreditation processes

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

A successful candidate will be required to demonstrate:

  • Intellectual administrative and leadership skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication and computer literacy skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • The ability to build and work with teams.
  • The ability to think and act creatively, strategically, and tactically.
  • The ability to work with senior campus leadership, community affiliates, as well as other internal and external constituencies.
