“The blue light that will emanate from this building is more than just a beautiful spectacle. It is a symbol of our commitment to the United Nations and our dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said Prime Minister Dr. Drew. “The lighting ceremony tonight serves as a powerful symbol of our commitment to these goals. It represents our dedication to upholding the values of the United Nations, and it marks a historic moment in our own journey. As we illuminate this Government Headquarters, we are, in essence, lighting the way forward—a path towards a sustainable future for our beautiful islands and a message to the world that Saint Kitts and Nevis is steadfast in its commitment to the global community,” Dr. Drew added.

Prime Minister Dr. Drew said it’s crucial to emphasize the importance of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which serve as a guide to a prosperous and inclusive future by 2030. Achieving these goals requires the collective effort of individuals, communities, businesses, and governments. He said it’s not only up to governments to ensure a sustainable future but that everyone must integrate these goals into their daily lives.

Dr. Drew said that St. Kitts and Nevis has made commendable progress, adopting renewable energy, safeguarding natural resources, and fostering a resilient economy. Our cooperation with the United Nations and other global bodies showcases our commitment, particularly to SDG 17, which stresses partnership and collaboration.

Illuminating the building in radiant blue served a dual purpose: celebrating the UN’s anniversary and marking St. Kitts and Nevis’ 40th year of UN membership since September 25th, 1983. More than just a symbolic act, this event underscored the government’s steadfast dedication to the UN framework, with a particular emphasis on the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 17) – Partnership for the Goals.

The Governor-General, Her Excellency Dame Marchella Liburd, Cabinet Members, Senior Government Officials, representatives from the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, media personnel, and other distinguished guests attended the event.
