The Human Resource Management Department on behalf of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure et al wish to invite suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Plant Operator.
The Plant Operator will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of desalination plants to ensure the efficient production of clean, potable water. Your primary duties will include overseeing the operation of equipment, conducting routine maintenance, analyzing water quality, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises and assists the crew in installing, operating and controlling the desalination process equipment including pumps, membranes, filters, valves and chemical feed systems to facilitate the production of high-quality drinking water.
- Assigns, supervises and checks the work of the crew engaged in minor repairs, maintenance assessments and work to machinery and equipment.
- Is accountable for tools and equipment used by the crew.
- Regulates and keeps an accurate record of readings of meters, gauges, water quality testing, filters and reservoirs, materials and other pertinent information on all jobs and transmits information to Plant Supervisor.
- Keeps an accurate record of time worked by employees and submits information to Plant Supervisor.
- Assists in taking samples of water for testing and keeps an accurate record in appropriate logs and databases.
- Keeps an accurate log of plant operations and keeps a diary of events at the Desalination Plant.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), following lockout/tagout procedures, and participating in safety training programs.
- Supervises and assists in the instruction of trainees.
- Supervises maintenance of cleaning of plant components, buildings and grounds.
- Makes requisition for equipment, fittings and other materials required to perform maintenance functions and repairs.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Plumbing and Pipefitting from a Technical College
- Two (2) years of experience in the Water or Mechanical Industry
Knowledge & Skills:
In addition to the requirements above, the post holder must have the following skills:
- Excellent Health and Physical fitness;
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and respond to emergencies as needed to ensure 24/7 plant operation.
- Good command of the English language.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Good with targets and tight deadlines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of the material and situations encountered on the job.
Salary: (K22-K27) ($41,196-51,180) per annum
