BASSETERRE (23rd January, 2019): More than 14,000 cruise passengers were projected to have arrived in St. Kitts today, which would be the most to arrive in one day for the 2018-’19 cruise season.
The world’s largest cruise ship, Symphony of the Seas, arrived with a maximum capacity of 6,780 passengers. The Crown Princes was in port with a maximum capacity of 3,592, and the Costa Pacifica with a maximum capacity of 3,800.
Minister of Tourism The Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant said the development of our cruise facilities and growth in arrivals will continue to be key to our overall tourism strategy.
“Concurrent with rising arrivals, is rising on-island expenditure, which is critical to the livelihoods of a variety of local entrepreneurs, from taxi drivers and tour operators to retail shops and restaurants” Minister Grant said.
St. Kitts has established itself as one of the leading cruise destination in the Caribbean. However, Minister Grant said this achievement should not mean that stakeholders should become complacent, but continue to work hard to exceed the expectations of our guests.
This cruise season (2018-2019) started in October 2018, with the St. Kitts Tourism Authority projecting more than 1.2 million cruise passengers, which would be the most ever for the St. Kitts cruise sector.
